Postwar Ammo feeding belt fo MG42/MG3

One of the weapons with greatest influence on the postwar weapons development was the MG42. It was the perfect machinegun wich is still in production today. Several armies uses it as their main machinegun for vehicles and squads. It was originally chambered in 7,92. The americans tried to rechamber it for the 30-06 with no success. Today it is used with the Nato 308 calibre.

The feeding belts is still in production so they occur often on the private marked.

The belt at the picture on the left is an original loaded german ww2 edition. It was found loaded as seen on a local addic.

This is a comparison between a wartime (left) and a postwar(right). The wartime production is about 1-2 mm longer than the postwar. As seen the bend were each piece gets wider is more straight on the wartime one. The most distinctive difference is the line on the back of the wartime production.

Pivture of the inside of the postwar one.
Another picture showing the difference on the back of the belts. The difference in the coating can also be seen. The postwar is more shiny than the wartime one.
Beltstarters are also produced postwar. One sure sign of postwar is the lack of production markings. The one on the left is an original ww2 produced starter. The producers code 'cvo' 42 can clearly be seen.
